Wendy Greuel for City Controller
As a City Councilwoman, Wendy Greuel has been a strong, independent leader who has fought for her community and the people of Los Angeles. She has been an effective and tireless advocate for working families and children. Now, Wendy is running for City Controller to continue to fight for the people of Los Angeles and to continue to be an independent voice exposing waste, fraud, and abuse in government and making real change so that City Hall is accountable and responsive to the people of Los Angeles.
As Controller, Wendy will:
- Fight to ensure City Hall spends taxpayer dollars wisely and responsibly by identifying and eliminating wasteful spending. Wendy will fight waste by instituting mandatory performance audits to measure the effectiveness of every city department.
- Fight to expose fraud and abuse in city government. Wendy will work tirelessly to uncover fraud and abuse by performing fiscal audits of every department and sponsored program.
- Fight to ensure an economic recovery and economic growth. Wendy will be an advocate for a business-friendly Los Angeles by identifying failed city policies that impede our city's ability to maintain and create jobs.
As Councilwoman, Wendy has already:
- Fought to reform government by getting the influence of money out of city politics. As Chairwoman of the Audits and Government Efficiency Committee, Wendy banned fundraising and independent expenditures by city commissioners in order to eliminate a pay to play culture.
- Fought to create jobs in Los Angeles by reforming the city business tax. Wendy made Los Angeles more business-friendly by eliminating the business tax for over 60% of the city's small businesses. She's also helped make Los Angeles more competitive in the regional marketplace by working to reform the tax code making Los Angeles a more desirable business destination compared to nearby municipalities.
- Fought to improve our quality of life by reducing traffic as Chairwoman of the City Council's Transportation Committee. Wendy banned road construction during rush hour, installed left-turn signals at congested intersections, and successfully lobbied Washington and Sacramento to expedite construction of Los Angeles transportation projects such as the 405 carpool lane.
- Fought to create opportunities for our children. Wendy has worked to support LA's BEST, the city's outstanding and nationally acclaimed after school program which she helped to create when working as an aide to Mayor Bradley. She also coordinated safe-routes maps to ensure city students safe travel to and from school, and worked to rebuild libraries in her district.
- Fought to preserve open space. Wendy has ensured that over 1000 acres in the City of Los Angeles will be preserved as open space free of development in perpetuity.
Thank you for making our kickoff a huge success!
Thanks to everyone who attended Saturday's terrific event at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park. We signed up over 100 volunteers and collected more than 650 pounds of food and other supplies for the Valley Food Bank. Pictures of the event can be found here.
