Councilwoman Greuel is planning for tomorrow by protecting Los Angeles' natural resources today. She is working to preserve the unique landscape of LA's hills, parks and beaches. She is committed to implementing innovative technology in the City to promote clean water, clean energy and clean air. Councilwoman Greuel is committed to providing our children with the healthy city they deserve.
Councilwoman Greuel's Environmental Accomplishments:
- Created the sixth largest park in the City of Los Angeles, by using Proposition K funds to purchase 225 acres of wilderness in the Verdugo Mountains.
- Secured the passage of the historic San Gabriel/Verdugo Mountains Scenic Preservation Corridor Plan, which, for the first time in the City's history, serves to protect prominent ridge lines throughout the Foothills area and is a model for the City of Los Angeles.
- Directed the Department of Water and Power to increase the portion of their power produced by renewable energy to 20% by 2017.
- Increased funding and built improvements at EVERY public park in the Second Council District.
- Formed the Verdugo Mountains Task Force whose goal is to identify and purchase plots of land critical to maintaining the Verdugo Mountain wilderness.
- Led the reform of the City's slope-density ordinance to create an accurate and consistent slope density calculation which will help limit development and preserve precious mountain space.
- Strengthened the City's Oak Tree ordinance, which increases protection for native trees.
- Successfully campaigned for the passage of Proposition O which provides critically needed funds to improve local water supply reliability.
On Wendy's Environmental Agenda:
- Requiring that all newly constructed buildings in the City of Los Angeles be pre-wired for solar roofs in order to be solar ready.
- Increasing energy efficiency and reducing GHG emissions through greenbuilding programs.
- Working with Council colleagues to revitalize the Los Angeles River.
- Providing City land to site the first bio-diesel gas station in Los Angeles.
- Working with Los Angeles World Airports to direct airlines, individuals and concession vendors at airports to increase participation in recycling programs.
- Directing City Departments to pioneer Integrated Pest Management techniques as an alternative to potentially harmful pesticides at all city facilities.
- Working with the Department of Water and Power to develop a strategic plan to promote the widespread use of compact fluorescent bulbs throughout the City.
Councilwoman Greuel is committed to preserving the city where she grew up. She is leading Los Angeles toward a cleaner and greener future.
