Wendy Greuel for City Controller
A seamless and convenient public transit system as an alternative to congested roads
As Chair of the City's Transportation Committee, Councilwoman Greuel envisions a Los Angeles where citizens can walk to nearby subways, bus stops and light rail stations that will drop them a few blocks from their offices. She envisions seamless bus routes that allow workers to save time and stress in the morning. She envisions a Los Angeles accessible to all residents, no matter their income level or location. She envisions a network of bike lanes that crisscross the city and provide easy access to restaurants and movie theaters.
Councilwoman Greuel is building toward that vision.
Accomplishments:
- Traveled to Sacramento to successfully fight for Los Angeles' fair share of funding from the recently passed Transportation Bond, Prop. 1B.
- Successfully campaigned for the passage of Measure R to expand funding for public transit projects.
- Generated new money for public transit by providing placement for advertisements on City buses.
- Established incentives for public-transit commuting by enforcing the parking cash-out ordinance, a law that requires large businesses that provide free parking to employees who drive to work, also provide a cash equivalent to employees who walk, ride a bike or take the bus or subway to work.
- Bus Lanes
- Broke ground on the Exposition Line and Gold Line extension
- Increased parking around the Orange Line
- Launched a new LAPD/DOT unit to investigate Bandit Taxi Cabs and promote passenger safety.
On Wendy's Agenda:
- Increasing safety around the Orange Line by providing photo red-light enforcement at key Orange Line intersections.
- Building designated bike lanes to protect cyclists from the hazards of car traffic.
- Examining the intersection of planning with transportation and the role of transit corridors in reducing overall commute times.
- Lobbying for State and Federal funds to break ground on major public projects like the ‘Subway to the Sea' and the extension of the Expo Line.
- Increasing access to information about public transportation to improve the ease of taking a bus or train.
Because building busways and subways takes years of planning and construction, Councilmember Greuel is supplementing her long-term agenda with immediate traffic remedies.
