Wendy Greuel for City Controller

Audits / Government Reform

Transparency and strong oversight makes City Hall efficient and effective for the people of Los Angeles. Wendy is running for City Controller to continue to fight for the people of Los Angeles by exposing waste, fraud, and abuse.

Accomplishments:

Wendy successfully worked to ban fundraising and independent expenditures by City Commissioners on behalf of politicians and elected officials. She believes that while the vast majority of citizens participating on the City's commissions are honest, dedicated volunteers, we must create a system that is free from even the perception of "pay to play."

In 2007, she introduced a motion to expand the city ethics code to ex parte communication with City Commissioners. Under the proposed policy, City Commissioners will make all their decisions completely in view of the public. As Councilwoman, Wendy also created the Waste, Fraud, and Abuse Investigative Unit in the City Controller's office to strengthen oversight of the city's semi-independent departments. Wendy is also a member of the Audits and Government Efficiency Committee, which identifies fraud and corruption in city government and cuts wasteful government spending. Wendy also increased efficiency by consolidating security agencies in different City departments through the Office of Public Safety, and by implementing the "Collections Sheriff" in the Office of Finance to improve the revenue collection process.

Wendy's Agenda:

  • Ensure City Hall spends taxpayer dollars wisely and responsibly by identifying and eliminating wasteful spending. Institute mandatory performance audits to measure the effectiveness of every city department.
  • Expose fraud and abuse in city government. Uncover malfeasance by performing fiscal audits of every department and sponsored program.
  • Supervise public safety and anti-gang efforts from the City's Gang Reduction and Youth Development department as well as other departments and agencies.
  • Perform a comprehensive performance audit of all city spending on traffic programs.
  • Identify failed city policies that impede our city's ability to maintain and create jobs to ensure economic recovery and growth.
  •
